Tie Rod End: Service and Repair


To remove





1. Slightly loosen the clamp bolt.
2. Slightly loosen the nut.
3. Use puller 89 96 696to press out the track-rod end.
4. Remove the nut.
5. Measure the length of thread on the adjuster screw.
6. Unscrew the track-rod end (use an adjustable spanner to steady the track rod).


To fit





1. Screw on the track-rod end to the correct position on the adjusting screw thread.

IMPORTANT: Before tightening the clamp bolt, the track-rod end must be at the correct angle, that is 90° to the MacPherson strut.

2. Fit the track-rod end to the steering swivel member and tighten it.
Tightening torque: 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
3. Tighten the clamp bolt.
Tightening torque: 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
4. Check the toe-in and adjust as necessary.
