Work On A Car Equipped With The SRS
Welding
Disconnect the battery's negative cable and cover it before starting any welding work.
Painting
Before painting, cover the ground connections and weld bolts in the SRS control module retaining bracket with masking tape to ensure the integrity of the control module's ground connection.
Electrical work
Electric cables in the airbag system must not be spliced. Splicing can be the cause of system malfunctions which could result in injury or render the system unserviceable.
Fault diagnosis
For handling instructions.
Work on the car body
If work on the car body involves hammering and other impacts, the ignition switch must be in the OFF position.
Work on the steering gear
If any work is carried out when the contact roller is fitted and the steering column shaft is not connected to the steering gear, the steering wheel must be locked in position so that the basic setting of the contact roller will not be altered.
WARNING: If the basic setting of the contact roller is altered, the spiral conductor in the roller will break when the steering wheel is turned to full lock. The airbag will then fail to work in the event of an accident, with the consequent risk of serious injury to the driver.
Scrapping and recycling
For scrapping and recycling the car, see Service Manual 8:7.
