Handling Control Modules
Handling Control Modules
All the control modules are more or less sensitive to static electricity, and if they are handled incorrectly they may be damaged so seriously that their function will be impaired. Therefore, it is important to comply with the following instructions at all times when removing or fitting a control module.
- Avoid disconnecting or removing a control module if it is not absolutely necessary to do so.
- Never touch the connecting pins and never place the control module in such a way as to allow the pins to come into contact with other objects.
- Before unpacking a new control module, ground the packaging against the car body and open it just before it is to be fitted.
- Avoid wearing clothing made from synthetic materials.
- While working with a control module, it is very important that you ground yourself at regular intervals. This is especially important while sitting in the car, when changing position or when moving around the car. Be extremely careful with these points when working in very dry climates (e.g. during the winter on cold markets).
- Always handle control modules that you suspect are defective in the same manner. This increases the possibility to exactly determine the cause of the problem.
