Lubrication

Lubrication

A. Lubrication

The turbo shaft, which rotates at extremely high speeds, is carefully balanced and journalled in floating slide bearing bushes. This means that the bearings have a heavy through-flow of oil so that the shaft floats on a film of oil when it is rotating. The oil is obtained from the engine lubrication system through a special oil pipe which runs from the oil filter's adapter housing. The return oil flows back to the engine oil sump. The seal between the shaft and the bearing housing consists of rings of piston-ring type fitted in grooves on the shaft.
