Draining Fuel Tank

CAUTION: Do not smoke. Be mindful of the danger of sparks being caused by short circuits, when connecting and disconnecting live circuits, etc. Make sure that a suitable fire extinguisher is always near at hand.

Work only in a well-ventilated area.

When work on the fuel system requires the tank to be drained, this can be done with a separate tank draining unit or by using the car's fuel pump.






Use the fuel pump to drain the fuel tank. To prevent the emission of hydrocarbons into the workshop, use a closed system.

Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump, connect a special line to the pump and fit the other end to a suitable receptacle. The receptacle should be closed and equipped with a vent hose, which should be run back into the fuel filler pipe.

Note: Do not run the fuel pump without any fuel in the tank.
