System Overview, Normally Aspirated Engine

Short description
The intake system consists of an air cleaner, mass air flow sensor, rubber elbow and resonator. The intake system is connected to the throttle body.

The volume of air used by the engine passes through the intake system where a filter cleans the air by removing dust particles from it, The air cleaner (air collector casing) also acts as an intake air silencer.

The mass air flow sensor provides the engine management system's control module with continuous information on the mass flow of air consumed by the engine. Signals from the mass air flow sensor are processed by the control module which monitors the engine's fuel mixture requirements.

For further information on the mass air flow sensor, see "Computers and Control Systems".
