Trip Meter Resets To Zero Every Time The Car Is Started

Fault symptoms
Trip meter resets to zero every time the car is started.

Condition
No current (+30 circuit).

Diagnostic procedure

1. Check supply of current to fuse
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 to the upper pin in fuse holder 35 and a good grounding point.






- The test lamp should light up.






Is the function correct?
YES
- Go to step 2.
NO
- Repair or replace the lead between B+ and fuse 35 in the dashboard's main fuse box.
- Go to step 4.

2. Checking the fuse
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 to the lower pin in fuse holder 35 and a good grounding point.






- The test lamp should light up.






Is the function correct?
YES
- Go to step 3.
NO
- Replace: Fuse 35.
- Go to step 4.

3. Checking the power supply
- Unplug connector: Main instrument unit's 12-pin connector: (540).






- Connect a test lamp to pin 7 of MIU K12 and a good ground.






- The test lamp should light up.






Is the function correct?
YES
- Go to step 4.
NO
- Repair or replace the lead between fuse 35 and pin 7 in the MIU's 12-pin connector.
- Go to step 4.

4. Final check
- Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.






- Perform a functional test.






Is the function correct?
YES
- The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
NO
