Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
Rear crankshaft seal
To remove
1. (man.) Remove the gearbox, see To remove under Manual gearbox.
(auto.) Remove the gearbox, see Complete automatic transmission under Automatic transmission.
2. Remove the clutch and pressure plate, see Changing the complete clutch
3. Remove the flywheel or driven plate.
4. Screw in a self-tapping screw into the seal and pull out seal.
To Fit
1. Clean off gasket remains from the sealing surfaces.
2. Lubricate the new sealing ring with acid-free vasoline and position it in the protective sleeve 83 95 402 (KM-934-1).
3. Position the sealing ring protective sleeve and tool 83 95 402 (KM-934-2) onto the crankshaft. Press in the sealing ring with tool 83 95 402 (KM-454-2) until it is flush with the cylinder block.
4. Fit the Flywheel or driven plate. Use tool 83 95 402 as a backstop. Tightening torque: 45 Nm (33 lbf ft) + 30°.
