Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair
Relieving Fuel PressureMuch of the work on the fuel system requires disconnecting fuel lines. To prevent pressurized fuel from spraying, especially on a hot engine, it is a good idea to relieve the pressure in the lines before working on the system.
One basic method of relieving the pressure is to remove the fuel pump fuse and run the engine untill it stalls. Another method is to wrap the fuel line with an absorbent cloth before loosening a fitting.
WARNING: Fuel will be discharged during many fuel system tests or repairs. Do not smoke or work near heaters or other fire hazards. Have a fire extinguisher handy.
