Lowering the Soft Top

Lowering The Soft top

1 Soft top completely raised and locked to the windscreen frame
The following condition must be met before the soft top can be operated:
- The car must not be travelling at speeds greater than 10 km/h.
- The ignition must be in position ON.
- The boot lid must be closed.
- The soft top storage must be in the bottom position.
- Voltage must be 10 - 16V
The soft top is lowered by first opening the latch handle in the first bow. Then, the ROOF button is pressed backwards until the soft top is completely lowered (open) and an acoustic signal is heard from SID.
The soft top is lowered sequentially, that is, each individual movement must be completed before the next one can start.
The following table illustrates the condition of the switches and microswitches when the soft top is completely raised (closed) and locked to the windscreen frame.

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Windscreen frame, left ON
Windscreen frame, right ON
Main cylinder, up ON
Main cylinder, down OFF
Fifth bow cylinder, up OFF

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Fifth bow cylinder down OFF
Fifth bow intermediate ON
position
Fifth bow latch, left ON
Fifth bow latch, right ON
Soft top cover cylinder, up OFF
Soft top cover latch, left ON
Soft top cover latch, right ON

If a malfunction should occur while operating the soft top, the STC control module will send bus messages Sound and Text message, whereby SID sounds an acoustic signal at the same time as it displays an error message.
The following tables and illustrations show which condition switches/microswitches, pump, valves as well as relay assume for the fifth bow latch motor at each movement sequence.

2 Windscreen frame latches open, fifth bow latches unlock

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Windscreen frame, left ON changes to OFF
Fifth bow latch, left ON changes to OFF
Windscreen frame, right ON changes to OFF
Fifth bow latch, right ON changes to OFF

The first bow is unlocked manually with the latch handle. The fifth bow latches unlock and the pump, valves and relay for the fifth bow latch motor take the following conditions

Pump, valves, relay Condition
for fifth bow latch
motor
Pump, pull OFF
Pump, push OFF
Valve 1,fifth bow cylinder OFF
down
Valve 2, main cylinder up OFF
Valve 3, fifth bow cylinder OFF
up
Valve 4, main cylinder OFF
down
Relay for fifth bow latch Unlock
motor

3 Fifth bow raised

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Fifth bow cylinder, up OFF changes to ON
Fifth bow intermediate ON changes to OFF
position

The fifth bow is raised and the pump, valves and relay for the fifth bow latch motor assume the following conditions

Pump, valves, relay Condition
for fifth bow latch
motor
Pump, push OFF changes to ON
Valve 3, fifth bow cylinder OFF changes to ON
up
Relay for fifth bow latch Unlock changes to OFF
motor

4 Soft top cover latches unlock

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Soft top cover latch, left ON changes to OFF
Soft top cover latch, right ON changes to OFF

The soft top cover latches unlock and the pump assumes the following condition.

Pump, valves, relay Condition
for fifth bow latch
motor
Pump pull OFF changes to ON
Pump, push ON changes to OFF

5 Soft top cover raised

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Soft top cover cylinder,up OFF charges to ON

Soft top cover is raised.

6 Fifth bow lowered and fifth bow latches lock

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Fifth bow cylinder, up ON changes to OFF

The fifth bow is lowered and the fifth bow latches lock at the same time as the swivelling covers close. The pump, valves and relay for the fifth bow latch motor assume the following conditions.

Pump, valves, relay Condition
for fifth bow latch
motor
Valve 1,fifth bow cylinder OFF changes to ON
down
Valve 3,fifth bow cylinder ON changes to OFF
down
Relay for fifth bow latch Off changes to unlock
motor

7 Fifth bow lowered

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Fifth bow cylinder, down OFF changes to ON
Fifth bow intermediate OFF changes to ON
position

The fifth bow is lowered and the main sequence commences. The pump, valves and relay for the fifth bow latch motor assume the following conditions

Pump, valves, relay Condition
for fifth bow latch
motor
Valve 1, fifth bow cylinder OFF changes to ON
down
Relay for fifth bow latch Lock changes to OFF
motor

8 Soft top lowered

Switch/Microswitch Condition
Main cylinder, down OFF changes to ON
Fifth bow cylinder, down OFF changes to ON
Fifth bow intermediate ON changes to OFF
position

The soft top is lowered. The pump, valves and relay for the fifth bow latch motor assume the following conditions.

Pump, valves, relay Condition
for fifth bow latch
motor
Valve 1, fifth how cylinder ON changes to OFF down
Valve 4, main cylinder OFF changes to ON down

The main sequence commences, the fifth bow is freed and slides into place in the soft top storage.

9 Soft top cover lowered
