Bonnet-Release Cable And Release Lever




To Remove


Bonnet-Release Cable And Release Level:






NOTE: To facilitate the installation of a new bonnet-release cable, it is suitable to route a new cable by means of the old cable when it is removed.


1 Open the bonnet and remove the mount for the bonnet-release cable by removing the clamp.


NOTE: To open the bonnet in an emergency, use special tool part no. 8292963.


2 Remove the bonnet-release cable from the bonnet lock by first removing the bonnet lock spring from its attachment and then removing the cable from the spring lock.
3 Remove the bonnet-release cable from the radiator member by the bulkhead.
4 Open the door on the driver's side.







5 Remove the DICE module, located under the knee guard on the driver's side, proceed as follows:
- Lift away the cover from the fuse holder.
- Remove the lower section of the instrument panel by the driver's side.
- Remove the floor air duct, fastened with a screw at the bottom of the fuse holder.
- Remove the DICE module as well as the relay holder by removing the plastic nut securing the relay holder console and the two relay holder retaining screws.
6 Remove the two fuse holder retainer bolts and bend it to the side.







7 Fold down the front of the carpet.
8 Remove the release lever housing by removing the lock tabs with two small screwdrivers, one from above and the other from below, pulling rearwards and outwards.
9 Pull out the bonnet-release cable along with the release lever housing (one unit) through the bulkhead.

To Fit







NOTE: Fitting of a new bonnet-release cable is facilitated by a pull-through, consisting of a thin steel wire with a loop at the end, that is either pushed through the bulkhead or pulled through the bulkhead with the cable to be replaced.

1 Pull the pull-through cable through the bulkhead and hook the bonnet-release cable to the loop.


NOTE: Secure with tape and lubricate the cable with vaseline to facilitate fitting of the cable.


2 Pull the bonnet-release cable through the bulkhead. Push the cable at the same time as it is pulled.
3 Press the release-lever housing into position.
4 Fit the fuse holder with the two retainer bolts.
5 Fit the DICE module as follows:
- Fit the DICE module and the relay holder.
- Fit the air distribution ducts.
- Fit the lower section of the instrument panel.
6 Pull the bonnet-release cable to the radiator member via the lead-through in the bottom of the washer fluid reservoir filler opening.







7 Guide the bonnet-release cable through the clamp and into the bonnet lock.
8 Tension the bonnet lock.
9 Tension the bonnet-release cable and tighten down the clamp.
10 Lubricate the bonnet lock spring and striker pin socket, if necessary.
11 Check the function.
