Installation Procedure
The installation should be done in two steps:1 Soldering connections between Nokia harness and Saab adapter harness should be done on a workbench.
2 Actual installation of components into car.
WARNING
USING ANY POWER OR GROUND SOURCE OTHER THAN THAT WHICH IS FURNISHED IN THE PRE-WIRED CONNECTOR MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE OR INTERFERENCE WITH ONE OR MORE IN-CAR SYSTEMS. CAUTION MUST BE USED WHEN MOUNTING PHONE CRADLES TO THE CONSOLE OR INSTRUMENT PANEL SO THAT NO DAMAGE OCCURS TO THE WIRING BEHIND THEM. DO NOT USE SCREWS THAT ARE LONGER THAN NECESSARY.
DAMAGE CAUSED BY INCORRECT WIRING OF MOBILE TELEPHONES OR OTHER ADD ON ACCESSORIES IS NOT COVERED BY THE NEW CAR WARRANTY.
Installation with Tel 1 (9-3 SE 5-door only within VIN )(X2000000 to X2020000)
All connections to the Saab accessory adapter cable (P/N 50 36 454) should be soldered, then heat shrink tubing applied over the solder joint. Care must be taken to insure no bare wires are exposed.
The wire colors and connections for all Nokia car kits (CARK-11US and CARK-91US) are similar. CARK-11US and CARK-90US has a 4-pin connector (PCH-4); CARK-91US, CARK-103 and CARK105 have a 5-pin connector (PCH-5) with the additional wire (green) being for a power antenna trigger which is unused in this application.
1 Cut the leads so that approx. 130 mm (5") of wiring is left after the Nokia connector. Be sure to leave enough material to solder the Nokia harness to the Saab harness.
2 Strip the wires and make the following solder connections. making certain of good solder joints. Heat shrink tubing should be applied to each solder joint.
NOTE:
Since the wire colors in the accessory adapter cable, P/N 50 36 454, are subject to change. the pin number has been listed without reference to the wire color.
3 Solder the red wire of the Nokia connector to the wire in pin 1 of the Saab accessory adapter cable, P/N 50 36 454. This supplies constant battery positive.
4 Solder the yellow wire of the Nokia connector to the wire in pin 5 of the Saab accessory adapter cable, P/N 5036454. This connection is for the mute function.
5 Solder the black wire of the Nokia connector to the wire in pin 4 of the Saab accessory adapter cable, P/N 50 36 454. This is the ground connection.
6 Solder the blue wire of the Nokia connector to the wire in pin 2 of the Saab accessory adapter, P/N 50 36 454. This supplies ignition switch power.
7 Microphone connections:
Using one of the 2.5 mm Radio Shack microphone jacks, connect the wire in pin 10 of the accessory adapter cable to the positive (center) post of the jack. Connect the wire on pin 3 of the accessory adapter cable to the ground (outer) part of the jack. Install the protective cover over the wiring.
Note:
The Saab 9-3 comes equipped with a dual level microphone located in the trim panel around the inside rearview mirror. The microphone is capable of either low-level or high-level output microphones; it is pre-wired for low-level use. All Nokia systems we have tried use this low-level setting. If a high-level use is required, the connection on the microphone must be changed from pin # 2 to pin # 1 on the microphone connection.
8 Remove the right-hand side A-pillar cover, the glovebox, and right-hand side center console cover. See WIS Section 8. Body, climate control system / interior equipment.
9 Install the mobile telephone antenna wiring up the A-pillar and mount both sides of the antenna to the right-hand upper corner of the windshield, using the antenna manufacturer's instructions. Once the wiring is in place, reinstall the A-pillar cover.
10 It may be necessary to Install the 2 wires from pins 7 & 8 to the telephone connector (located in the right-hand side console cover) to the audio system. These wires are necessary to carry the telephone sound output to the audio system. If Installation Is required, use the 4 electrical connectors (P/N 91 20 684) on the ends of 2 wires approx. 60cm long. You can use the extra wire from the Install kit to make this patch harness.
Install one wire from pin 7 of the car's mobile telephone connector to pin 1 of the top radio connector (on the radio head).
Install another wire from pin 8 of the car's mobile telephone connector to pin 3 of the top radio connector (on the radio head).
11 Mount the Nokia supplied external speaker in a suitable location behind the glovebox. You should be able to secure it to the right-side dash vent duct work. In this location, the sound of the auxiliary speaker can be heard through the right front speaker grille.
NOTE:
The additional speaker allows keypad entry tones to be heard before the hands-free function is taken over by the audio system. Without the speaker installed, the phone user will not hear the keypad entries. Volume of the additional speaker is not controlled by the audio system. Follow the instructions in the mobile telephone owner's manual to adjust the volume of the additional speaker.
12 Speaker connections:
Cut the speaker lack from the Nokia speaker wire.
13 Using one of the 3.5 mm Radio Shack speaker jacks, connect the black/white speaker wire along with the Saab accessory adapter cable's wire in pin 8 to the ground (outer) of the speaker jack.
14 Connect the black speaker wire along with the Saab accessory adapter cable's wire in pin 7 to the positive (center) post of the speaker jack.
15 Drill a hole in the phone mounting bracket large enough for the cradle wiring jack to fit through. Feed the jack wiring through the bracket and through the right-hand side console cover.
16 Plug the accessory adapter cable, the micro-phone jack, the cradle jack and the speaker jack into the junction box included in the phone manufacturer's hands-free kit. Secure the junction box to a suitable location near the right-hand side of the HVAC unit to avoid creating any rattles.
17 Connect the antenna lead to the cradle and check the phone for proper operation.
18 Reinstall the right-hand side center console cover and install the car phone bracket on the righthand side of the console. Mount the cradle to the bracket.
19 Reinstall the glovebox.

Miscellaneous Information:
1 If initial telephone volume through the system is either too high or too low, it can be adjusted as follows:
A With ignition key on, radio off, hold in the "WB" button while turning the radio on.
B On SID, a display will indicate one of four (4) programmable features. Press the "SEEK" button repeatedly until "TEL VOL" is seen. A number from 0-30 will be displayed. This represents the current setting, with 30 being the loudest. Turning the volume knob on the radio adjusts the setting. The Factory setting is 14.
C After the desired setting is reached, it can be saved by either waiting for a period of 10 seconds, after which the radio returns to normal operation, or, press the "WB" or any other button on the lower row.
2 If a telephone conversation is taking place when the car is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition, the phone will be disconnected.
3 If the car is shut off and the key is removed with the phone in the cradle, the phone will turn off after a few seconds if it is not removed from the cradle.
