Transmission shifting function faulty

Fault symptoms
CHECK GEARBOX warning lamp on.
TCM in Limp-Home mode
Slippage in the transmission.

Conditions
The difference between input shaft speed and out put shaft speed (speed of the car) is more than 10% above the gear ratio for more than 5 seconds.

Diagnosis will not be performed if:
1 The TCM is in Limp-Home mode.
2 Car speed is below 25 km/h.
3 The selector lever is in P, R or N.
4 The accelerator position is less than 10%
5 The fluid temperature is lower than 20°C.
6 Less than 10 seconds has elapsed since shifting occurred.
7 Engine speed is below 400 rpm.
8 Diagnostic trouble code 1817 or 1822 has been generated.

Diagnostic help
The control module calculates the ratio between input and output shaft speed. For each gear there is a definite relationship, depending on the ratio. The fault indicates a mechanical malfunction. Wear in the transmission may be the cause of abrupt shifting and an inoperative Lock-up function.

Diagnostic procedure

1 Check the fault symptom
Check the problem by driving the car as shown in the road test schedule, see Fault diagnosis, general, "Road test schedule." Note any fault symptoms. Tech 2 Scan Tool

Are there any fault symptoms?
YES
Continue with Fault diagnosis, fault symptoms, "Mechanical and hydraulic faults" and then step 2. Non-Trouble Code Procedures
NO
Continue with step 2.

2 Final check
- Clear all diagnostic trouble codes in the system.
- Perform a driving cycle:
- Drive the car at varying loads and engine speeds for 5 minutes.
- Evaluate the driving cycle:
- Make sure the trouble code has not recurred.

Has the trouble code recurred?
YES
Continue with Fault diagnosis. See Fault diagnosis, general, "Before changing a control module." Tech 2 Scan Tool

NO
The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
