Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
Fault symptoms
CHECK ENGINE lamp on.
Conditions
Engine running. Vehicle speed >20 km/h. Coolant temperature does not rise 20C (36F) above starting temperature or does not reach 40C (104F) within 6 mm. 40 sec.
Diagnostic help
DTC can be generated when:
- non-approved external parking heater connected
- ice terming in coolant system
- malfunction in engine coolant temperature sensor or its circuit
- defective thermostat
Checking the wiring harness. Intermittent faults may occur in connection with short circuits and open circuits. Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in several directions to locate any problems in the wiring, including intermediate connectors. Observe the multimeter, scan tool or test lamp during the check.
