Brake Light Switch. Open Circuit.
Fault symptoms
No fault symptoms.
Conditions
DTC will be generated if there is a break in circuit continuity for more than 1 second.
Diagnostic help
The diagnostic tool can be used to determine the status of the brake-light switch (Open/Closed).
- Select "Read Values".
- Select "Brake-light switch".
Diagnostic procedure
1. Checking Brake Lights Functionality
^ Check that the brake lights come on when the pedal is depressed.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 3
YES
Go to step 2
2. Rectifying The Lead
^ Rectify the open circuit in the lead between pin 4 of the brake light switch and pin 14 on the control module.
3. Checking Brake Lights Functionality
See fault diagnosis for the brake lights.
Refer to Lighting and Horns
4. Final Check
^ Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
Carry out a drive cycle:
^ Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.
Evaluate the drive cycle.
^ Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 6
YES
Go to step 5

The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
