Fault symptoms
Interior lighting does not go on when the key is removed from the ignition and no doors are open.
Conditions
+B missing when +15 is on.
Diagnostic help
+B can be read with the scan tool.
Checking the wiring harness
Move the wiring harness at various points and in different direction to detect any intermittent breaks or short circuits. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostics tool while checking.
Diagnostic procedure
1. Check fuse
- Check fuse 11.
Test results OK?
YES
- Go to step 2.
NO
- Replace with new fuse.
- Go to step 4.
2. Check power supply to fuse
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between the upper pin in fuse holder 11 and a good grounding point.
- The test lamp should light up.
Test results OK?
YES
- Go to step 3.
NO
- Rectify open circuit in the lead between fuse 11, the ignition switch and maxi fuse 3.
- Go to step 4.
3. Check control module +B supply
- Contact DICE.
- Read DTCs.
- Note each DTC.
- Unplug connector: DICE :(628).
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between pin 7 on the female connector and a good grounding point.
- The test lamp should light up.
Test results OK?
YES
- See "Before changing a control module."
- Go to step 4.
NO
- Rectify the open circuit in the lead between pin 7 in the female connector and fuse 11 in the dashboard main fuse board.
- Go to step 4.
4. Final check
- Delete diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
- Carry out a function check.
- Evaluate the function check.
- Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred.
Has the diagnostic trouble code recurred?
YES
- See "Before changing a control module."
- The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
