Transmission Mode Switch: Description and Operation

By means of a spring-loaded switch in the knob of the selector lever it is possible to change between the NORMAL and SPORT gear shifting programs. NORMAL is always engaged when starting.

When the SPORT program is engaged, the transmission stays longer then normal in each gear at wide open throttle without kick-down and the shifting points are adapted for maximum performance. The gear shifting points for light acceleration and wide open throttle with kick-down are identical for both NORMAL and SPORT programs, however. With the switch activated, the voltage on pin 20 of the transmission control module is 0 volts (ground).

When the SPORT program is selected, the SPORT indicator lamp in the main instrument display panel lights up.

The SPORT program will be disconnected if:
^ The switch is activated again
^ The ignition switch is turned to the ON or OFF position
^ The limp-home mode is activated
^ The WINTER gear-shifting program is activated.
