Procedure

Lower the soft-top but let the tonneau cover stay open.

Undo the two screws holding the corners of the headlining to the first bow.

Detach the headlining from the velcro strip.

Fold down the cloth tabs and unscrew the seven screws holding the headlining to the first bow.

Place the soft top so that it is open half way.

Mark the ends of the headliner retaining strip on the second bow. Then remove the strip holding the headlining to the second bow.

Mark the ends of the headlining retaining strip on the third bow. Then remove the strip holding the headlining to the third bow.

Check the length of the side elastic straps at the front in their relaxed position. The normal distance from the edge binding to the rivet is 21-215 mm. If the length is 165-170 mm, the side elastic strap has already been shortened. If they are already shortened, continue with step 13.

Drill out the pop rivets securing the front side elastic straps to the front rails.

Make new holes for the rivets in the side elastic straps so that the overall length from the edge binding to the new hole will be 165 mm.

Shorten the side elastic straps so that the distance from the rivet hole to the end is about 25 mm.

Refit the side elastic straps to the front rails with blind rivets, 48 56 860 and washers, 48 56 878.

Raise the soft top to the closed and locked position.

Mark the lateral position of the anti-ballooning strips on the second and third bows.

Undo the anti-ballooning strips from the second and third bows. They are held in place with reusable tacky glue.

The anti-ballooning strips on cars that have these wear marks need to be wrapped around the 2nd and 3rd bows tighter. The cloth anti-ballooning strip passes behind the bow and wraps around the bottom and up the front of the bow. Tension the strips enough to prevent the outer roof from sagging between the bows and rewrap the cloth around the second and third bows respectively.

Remove the anti-ballooning strip from the bow. Pull it down and wrap it around the bottom of the bow so that approximately 8 mm of cloth is extending past the forward edge of the bow toward the front of the car. Wrap this cloth around the front of the bow. Follow the mans made above for correct centering.

Open the soft top half way and refit the headlining to the third and second bows.

Lower the soft top so that only the tonneau cover is open and refit the headlining to the first bow. Check that the cloth in the area of the second bow is now folding toward the center of the car on both sides.

Fit the two chafing guards 5110457 to the tonneau cover as shown in the illustration.

Vacuum the inside of the car to remove any cuttings, etc. that may be present.

Close the soft top.
