Passenger Side Air Bag

Removal

WARNING: Read through the Safety and handling instructions before starting work.




1. With the ignition off, remove the negative battery lead.
2. Open the glove compartment. Open the covers and remove the securing bolts.
3. Remove the other retaining screws and bolts and the expansion rivet in the front edge and unfasten the snap fastener from the bulkhead bracket.
4. Pull out the glove compartment and unplug the glove compartment lighting connector.
5. Lift out the glove compartment.




6. Unplug the airbag connector.
7. Remove the bolt that holds the stay to the steering wheel member.
8. Remove the nuts securing the airbag, (6).
9. Lift out the airbag.




Installation

WARNING: Check very carefully that there are no objects between the airbag and the facia before the airbag is fitted. Any loose objects in the way of the airbag when it is detonated will be thrown with enormous force and constitute a mortal danger for the driver and passengers.

1. Place the airbag in position. Check that there are no loose objects between the facia and the airbag. Tighten the nuts (6) that secure the airbag to the facia.
Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.6 ft lb)

2. Seal the front right and the rear left nuts with marking paint.
3. Tighten the bolts that secure the stay to the steering wheel member.
Tightening torque: 20 Nm (14.8 ft lb)
4. Plug in the airbag connector to the airbag.




5. Plug in the connector to the glove compartment lighting and refit the glove compartment.
6. Install the expansion rivet, securing bolt, securing screws and the cover on the glove compartment.
7. Refit the negative battery lead and switch on the ignition.
8. Connect the ISAT to the data link connector under the facia and erase any diagnostic trouble codes.

- Switch off the ignition and switch it back on again. Wait for at least 10 seconds with the ignition on.
- Check to see if a diagnostic trouble code is displayed.
- If a diagnostic trouble code is displayed: Conduct the appropriate fault diagnosis.
- If no diagnostic trouble code is displayed: Refit all parts that have been removed.
