Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
Before starting work, Service Precautions
WARNING: Read the Safety and handling instructions before starting work.
Removal
1. With the ignition off, remove the negative battery lead.
2. Apply the handbrake.
3. Remove the ignition switch cover by first loosening the front left-hand side and then loosening the rear edge of the cover and then prying out the front edge.
4. Unplug the ignition switch lighting connector.
5. Undo the floor console securing screws (2).
6. Remove the rear ashtray/cover.
7. Remove the rear cover, 1 torx.
8. Remove the floor console securing nuts (2).
9. Free the floor console by pulling it straight back and lifting it slightly.
10. Free the interior lighting switch using a screwdriver or by pushing it up from underneath (the switch is held with clips) and pull it right up. Unplug the switch connector.
11. Free the rear heated seat switch. Unplug the switch connector.
12. Detach the electric window module by detaching the front edge (snap fastener). Unplug the electric window module connector.
13. Lift out the floor console.
14. Remove the control module connector.
15. Remove the nuts securing the control module(3).
Installation - The fitting of the control module is direction dependent. The SRS system does not work if the control module is incorrectly fitted
1. Position the control module so that the connector points towards the driver seat. Tighten the nuts (3).
2. Plug in the control module connector.
3. Install the floor console over the handbrake. Do not press the console in to position, but let it remain unsecured.
4. Thread the connectors for the electric window module, the interior lighting and the rear seat heater through the hole for each unit.
5. Connect the electric window module connector and install the module.
6. Connect the interior lighting connector and install the switch.
7. Connect the rear seat heater connector and install the switch.
8. Tighten the floor console retaining bolts (2) and the retaining nuts (2).
9. Place the rear cover in position, making sure that the air duct is properly connected to the nozzle. Screw down the cover (1 torx).
10 Install the ashtray/cover.
11. Plug in the ignition switch lighting connector.
12. Install the ignition switch cover.
13. Refit the negative battery lead and switch on the ignition.
14. Connect the ISAT to the data link connector under the facia and erase any diagnostic trouble codes.
- Switch off the ignition and switch it back on again.Wait for at least 10 seconds with the ignition on.
- Check to see if a diagnostic trouble code is displayed.
- If a diagnostic trouble code is displayed: Conduct the appropriate fault diagnosis. [1][2]Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
- If no diagnostic trouble code is displayed: Refit all parts that have been removed.
