Changing the oxygen sensor
Cars affected
Saab 900 with 4-cylinder turbo engines within the VIN Interval:
T2000187 - V2052470 (3D/5D)
T7000055 - up to and including M97 (CV)
Background
If it is necessary to replace an oxygen sensor on the above cars, the following procedure must be followed.
Parts required
4660494 Oxygen sensor LSH25P (CA: 30561689)
Note
There is a piece of adhesive tape on the oxygen sensor cable indicating the position for the lower cable clamp.
The distance between the tape, see illustration, and the cable connection on the oxygen sensor is 125 +/- 5 mm.
Procedure
WARNING
The exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe can be extremely hot.
Important
The oxygen sensor is very sensitive to blows and knocks and must be handled with care.
The oxygen sensor cable must not be twisted.
1 Separate the oxygen sensor connector and remove it from the bracket. Take off the clips, remove the upper cable clamp and take it off the cable. Lead the cable down to the sensor.
2 Raise the car, remove the lower cable clamp and take It off the cable. Remove the oxygen sensor.
3 Fit the new oxygen sensor and tighten to the correct torque. it is important that the joint between the oxygen sensor and the exhaust pipe is gas-tight.
Tightening torque 55 Nm (41 lbf ft).
4 Make sure the oxygen sensor cable is not twisted and position the lower cable clamp over the adhesive tape on the oxygen sensor cable. The bottom edge of the tape must correspond with the bottom edge of the cable clamp. Position the cable clamp so that the oxygen sensor cable follows an even line with a slight bend between the clamp and the oxygen sensor. Tighten the screw on the cable clamp.
Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 lbf ft)
5 Lower the car, lay the cable as shown in the illustration and tighten the upper cable clamp.
Tightening torque 6 Nm (4.5 lbf ft).
6 Fasten the cable to the coolant pipe with two clamps and connect the cable.
Important
It Is important that the connector is plugged in correctly and secured.
