Speedometer and Odometer
Fault symptoms
Speedometer needle does not move
Odometer and trip odometer stationary
Diagnostic procedure
1 Jack up LH rear wheel.
2 Unplug the main instrument display panel's three connectors and connect the Intellegent Saab Tester (ISAT) scan tool test leads to pin 7 (14-pin connector) and ground, then select "TEST" followed by "PULSE". Spin the rear wheel by hand and check whether pulses are generated.
About 30 Hz at 1 revolution per second.
If pulses are generated, proceed to point 5.
3 If no pulses are generated, check the wiring connecting a BOB to the ABS control module 5 connector. The main instrument display panel and ABS control module should not be connected.
4 Check for open circuit/shorting to ground between pin 7 (14-pin connector) of the main instrument display panel and pin 22 of the ABS control module.
If the wiring is OK, continue fault diagnosis as described in "Brakes".
5 Check the conductive foil on the back of the main instrument display panel by testing for an open circuit between pin 7 (14-pin connector) and the screw marked "SEN".
If the conductive foil is intact and the speedometer and odometer do not work, the fault is probably in these instruments. The complete main instrument display panel will have to be changed.
If there is an open circuit in the conductive foil, change the foil.
