Test Procedure Prior to ECM Replacement

Fig. 32 Test Procedure Prior To ECM Replacement:

When all tests have been completed in accordance with the rectification program to the particular diagnostic trouble code or through service manual fault diagnosis, without any fault being traced, it is natural to assume that the electronic control module is faulty.

Observe the following points before you definitely identify the ABS electronic control module as the cause of the problem,

1 Check once again that all tests in the codes fault diagnostic scheme have been carried out.
2 Study the particular circuits wiring diagram and familiarize yourself with its operation.
3 When fitting or removing the electronic control module be aware of its sensitivity to electrostatic discharge.
4 Check all grounding points and the voltage supply to the electronic control module. If you have checked this before, check it once again.
5 If the suggested diagnostic procedure routine fails to correctly rectify the problem, attempt to trace the problem through testing and analysis "Test reading, electronic control module connections".
6 Be very reluctant to change the electronic control module. Think through all likely fault reasons before replaceing the electronic control module!.
7 If the original fault remains, despite that, the ABS electronic control module must be changed.
