Convertible Top - Does Not Operate

Soft top cannot be operated

Cars affected
Saab 900 CV M95-M98.

Background
The microswitches for the soft top cover latches can cause functional disorders and therefore have been replaced in production with microswitches of higher quality.

After customer complaint, proceed as follows.

Symptom description
The soft top cannot be operated or it stops in mid-operation. SID displays the message CHECK SOFT TOP and diagnostic trouble code B1188 may be generated.

Parts required
Microswitch:

51 84 528 up to and including VIN S7021627
(CA: 30585792)

51 84 403 up to and including VIN S7021628
(CA: 30585716)

Procedure





1 Remove the rear side trim. See Body - Convertible - Adjustment/replacement - Rear side trim".

2 Remove the clip for the rear trim and lift up the trim.

3 Remove the screws holding the microswitch.

4 Unplug the connector, remove the microswitch and remove the tape holding the wires.

5 Run the cable through the bracket for the backrest catch mechanism and fit the microswitch.

Torque specification: 1.6 in.lbs.

NOTE:
It is important to not overtighten the screws. Over-tightening can cause internal damage to the switch.





6 Plug in the connector.





7 Install cloth tape to secure the wires to the body.

8 Fit the rear trim and the rear side trim. See "Body - Convertible - Adjustment/replacement - Rear side trim".

9 Connect Tech 2 and erase any diagnostic trouble codes.

10 Cycle the top several times. Check for correct operation.
