Direction Indicators
Fault symptom
The direction indicator remain on continuously.
The direction indicator do not light up.
Diagnostic procedure
1 Check the normal operation of the direction indicators
Switch on the hazard flashers.
Do they work correctly?
[YES] Continue with point 2.
[NO] Continue fault diagnosis as described in Service Manual 3:5 "Electrical system, ICE". See also fault diagnosis for diagnostic trouble code B1432, B1433 or B1442 and also checking of direction indicators and hazard flashers.
2 Check the operation of the direction indicators, using an Intelligent Saab Tester (ISAT) scan tool.
- Connect an ISAT scan tool.
- Select "ACTIVATE".
- Select "FLASHERS".
- Select "ON".
The direction indicators should remain on continuously.
Do they work properly?
[YES] The fault is of intermittent nature, proceed to point 4.
[NO] Continue with point 3.
3 Check the wiring
Unplug the alarm's electronic control module. Check for continuity between:
- pin 24 of the electronic control module and the LH side direction indicator connector.
- pin 12 of the electronic control module and the RH side direction indicator connector.
- pins 24 and 12 of the electronic control module and a good grounding point.
The resistance should be < 1 ohm.
Is the resistance OK?
[YES] Continue with point 4.
[NO] Repair or replace the wiring harness.
4 Final test
Check to see if the fault symptom persists.
Does the trouble persist?
[YES] Continue as described in "Before Changing The Electronic Control Module".
[NO] The remedial measures taken were correct or the fault is of intermittent nature.
