P1611
CHECK ENGINE REQUEST, SHORTING TO GROUNDSymptom Of Fault.
The CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) is on.
Conditions.
Ignition switch in ON position.
Short circuit to ground for more than 2.5 seconds.
Diagnostic Help.
The CHECK ENGINE request is made when the automatic transmission's engine control module wants the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) to light up because of an emission-related fault in the automatic transmission.
The "YES/NO" status of the CHECK ENGINE request can be ascertained with the ISAT scan tool.
- Select "ON/OFF".
- Select "CHECK ENG. REQUEST"
The CHECK ENGINE * request can be activated via the transmission control module using the ISAT scan tool.
- Engine running.
- Select "AUT TRANSMISSION".
- Select "ACTIVATE".
- Select "CHECK ENGINE"
If functioning correctly, the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) should light up.
Checking The Wiring
Intermittent faults may occur as a result of occasional short circuits and breaks in the wiring. Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal faults in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, ISAT scan tool or test lamp while carrying out this check.
Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Check the lead
- Check the continuity of the lead between pin 61 of the Trionic engine control module and pin 5 of the transmission control module.
Is the lead OK?
YES: Continue with point 2.
NO: Rectify the fault and proceed to point 3.
2. Check the output stage of the transmission control module
- Ignition switch in the OFF position.
- Unplug the Trionic engine control module's 70-pin connector.
- Connect the test lamp to pins 61 and 1 of the female connector.
The test lamp should light up for about 1 second and then go out when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
If the transmission control module has detected an emission-related fault, the test lamp will flash at the rate of twice a second (2 Hz).
Function OK?
YES: Continue with point 3.
NO: Continue fault diagnosis in the Automatic Transmission. Then carry out a final check as in point 3.
3. Final check:
- Clear the diagnostic trouble code.
- Implementation of driving cycle: Drive the car at varying loads and engine rpm for 5 minutes.
- Evaluation of driving cycle: Check whether the diagnostic trouble code has recurred.
Has the diagnostic trouble code recurred?
YES: Continue at "Before Replacing a Control Module". Component Tests and General Diagnostics
NO: The remedial measure taken was correct.
