With Central Warning Lamp

Diagnostic trouble code B1228, cars with central warning lamp - Lamp in the SRS symbol, broken, open circuit in the cable assembly or short circuit to ground.

V:

The Lamp Is Connected To Pin 7 In The Control Module.
1. Connect ISAT Note the diagnostic trouble code and the type of fault. P=permanent fault, I=intermittent fault.
If the fault is permanent: Proceed to point 3.
If the fault is intermittent: Proceed to point 2.

2. The fault is intermittent. Try to provoke the fault while taking measurements during fault diagnosis.
Manipulate connectors and leads and turn the steering wheel while taking measurements.

Proceed to point 3.

3. Switch on the ignition and check the SRS lamp. Then select the correct fault diagnosis as below.
SRS lamp does not light: Proceed to point 4.
SRS lamp stays lit: Proceed to point 7.

4. Free the main instrument and change the SRS lamp. Switch on the ignition.
The lamp should light for 3 to 4 seconds after the ignition is switched on.
If the lamp lights: The lamp was faulty. Proceed to point 11.
If the lamp does not light: Proceed to point 5.

4:

5. Switch off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery lead. Undo the bolts securing the steering wheel airbag. Unplug the connector on the rear of the airbag and connect reference resistor 84 71 153 to the connector.

On Cars With Passenger Airbag:
a. Remove the glove compartment and unplug the connector on the underside of the passenger airbag.
b. Plug in reference resistor 8471153 to the connector.

Proceed to point 6.

6. Free the SRS control module. Unplug the SRS control module connector and connect a BOB to the cable assembly.
Free the main instrument. Unplug the connector from the main instrument.

Connect an ohmmeter between sleeve 2 in the main instrument connector in the cable assembly and contact 7 on the BOB. The ohmmeter should read less than 1 Ohm.
If the value is OK:
If the value is incorrect: Check the lead between sleeve 2 in the main instrument connector and sleeve 7 in the control module connector for breaks/bad connections.
Remedy the fault and proceed to point 11.

Proceed to point 8.

8. Free the SRS control module. Remove the connector from the SRS control module and connect a BOB to the cable assembly. Reconnect the negative battery lead and switch on the ignition.
The SRS lamp should not light.
If the lamp does not light: Proceed to point 11.
If the lamp lights: Proceed to point 9.

:

9. Remove SRS control module grounding connection G4.
The SRS lamp should go out.
If the lamp goes out: The fault is in the connector. Change the cable assembly. Refit the grounding connection and proceed to point 11.
If the lamp does not go out: Refit the grounding connection and proceed to point 10.

10. Free the main instrument.
Unplug the main instrument connector. Connect an ohmmeter between connector 7 on the BOB and a safe grounding point.
The ohmmeter should show infinite resistance.
If the value is OK:Proceed to point 11.
If the value is incorrect: There is a short to ground on the lead between the SRS control module connector and the main instrument connector. Investigate the cause and remedy the fault.
Then proceed to point 11.

11. Switch off the ignition and remove the negative battery lead.
Remove the reference resistors and plug in all connectors to their original components. Refit the negative battery lead and switch on the ignition.

Erase the diagnostic trouble code. Switch off the ignition and switch it back on again. Wait for at least 10 seconds.
Check to see if the diagnostic trouble code returns.
If the diagnostic trouble code returns: Description of On-Board Diagnostics
If the diagnostic trouble code does not return: Return the car to good order.
