Horn, open circuit
Fault symptom
The horn does not work.
The LED flashes during the delay period.
Condition
Open circuit generates a diagnostic trouble code
Diagnostic procedure
1 Check fuse 23.
2 Check operation of the horn.
- Connect an Intelligent Saab Tester (ISAT) scan tool.
- Select "ACTIVATE".
- Select "HORN".
- Select "ON".
Does the horn work properly?
[YES] Continue with point 6.
[NO] Continue with point 3.
3 Check the horn's power supply
- Disconnect the horn.
- Connect the test lamp to the horn's two single-pole connectors.
- Repeat the ISAT scan tool commands as in point 2.
When "ON" is selected, the test lamp should light up.
Does It light up?
[YES] Change the horn.
[NO] Continue with point 4.
4 Check the horn's +30 power supply circuit
Connect the test lamp to the horn's single-pole connector (red lead) and a good grounding point.
The test lamp should light up.
Does It light up?
[YES] Continue with point 5.
[NO] Check circuit continuity, including the wiring between pin 1 of the connector and fuse 23.
5 Check the horn's ground connection
- Pin 11 of the electronic control module grounds the horn when it is activated.
- Check the wiring between the horn's single- pole connector (black lead) and pin ii of the connector for continuity.
The resistance should be < 1 ohm
Is the resistance reading correct?
[YES] Continue with point 6.
[NO] Repair or replace the wiring harness.
6 Check the generation of the diagnostic trouble code
Clear the diagnostic trouble code and drive the - car on test to check whether the trouble code is generated afresh.
Is the DTC generated afresh?
[YES] Continue-as described "Before Changing The Electronic Control Module".
[NO] The remedial measures taken were correct or the fault is of intermittent nature.
