Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor: Service and Repair
WARNING:
Since removal of the fuel filler pipe entails working on the car's fuel system, the following points should be observed:
^ Work only in a well-ventilated area. If approved equipment for the extraction of fuel vapours is available, be sure to use it.
^ Wear protective gloves, Prolonged contact with fuel may cause skin irritation or dermatitis.
^ Keep a class BE fire extinguisher near at hand. Be mindful of the danger of sparks caused by short circuits and when connecting and disconnecting leads in electrical circuits.
^ No smoking anywhere in the vicinity.
To Remove
1. Raise the car and remove the right-hand rear wheel.
2. Clean the area round the filler pipe so that dirt, etc. will not enter the pipe or the fuel tank.
3. Remove the plastic screw securing the filler pipe to the car body.
4. Undo the hose clips and the plastic hose connecting the filler pipe to the tank's fixed pipe.
5. Unplug the pressure sensor's connector.
6. Lower the car.
7. Grasp the pipe under the rear wing with one hand and withdraw the filler pipe from the collar by the filler cap. Use a screwdriver.
8. Pull the pipe out slightly for better accessibility when removing the fuel tank breather hose.
9. Withdraw the filler pipe.
10. Remove the pressure sensor.
To Install
Install in reverse order.
Tightening torque:
- Plastic screw: 1.5 Nm (1.1 ft lbs).
- Hose clips: 2.0 Nm (1.4 ft lbs).
IMPORTANT: When replacing the plastic screw it is important to install a screw made of plastic. In the event of a collision the plastic screw is designed to give or shear so that the filler pipe, which is also made of plastic, will not be damaged.
