P0452
FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSORFault Symptom.
CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) on.
Conditions.
Ignition switch in ON position.
P0452
Tank pressure below -3 kPa for more than 0.5 seconds.
P6453
Tank pressure above 3 kPa for more than 0.5 seconds.
Diagnostic Help.
A reading of the pressure sensor's performance can be obtained with the ISAT scan tool.
- Select "READ FUNCTIONS".
- Select "TANK PRESSURE".
With the ignition switch in the ON position and the fuel filler cap removed, the ISAT scan tool should show a reading of about 0 kPa.
Check The Wiring.
Intermittent faults may occur as a result of temporary short circuits and breaks in the wiring. Jiggle the wiring at several points and in different directions to ascertain whether the wiring harness, including any connectors is causing the trouble. Observe the multimeter, ISAT scan tool or test lamp while doing this.
Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Check the pressure sensor's connection to ground and power supply
- Unplug the pressure sensor's 4-pin connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Take a voltage reading on the connector contacts (male connector):
^ pin 1 and a good grounding point: about 5 V.
^ pins 1 and 2: about 5 V.
Are all readings OK?
YES: Continue with point 2.
NO: Check the lead in question and repair or replace it if necessary. Then continue with point 3.
2. Check the control module's pressure sensor input
- Connect the ISAT Scan Tool.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Select "READ FUNCTIONS".
- Select "TANK PRESSURE".
The ISAT scan tool should show a reading of about 2.9 kPa.
- Connect a jumper lead between pins 2 and 3 of the pressure sensor's connector.
The ISAT scan tool should show a reading of about -2.9 kPa.
Are all readings OK ?
YES: Change the pressure sensor and continue with point 3.
NO: Check the lead in question and repair or replace it if necessary. Then continue with point 3.
3. Final check
- Clear the diagnostic trouble code.
- Implementation of driving cycle:
^ Drive the car at varying engine loads and rpm for 5 minutes.
- Evaluation of driving cycle:
^ Check whether the diagnostic trouble code has recurred.
Has the diagnostic trouble code recurred?
YES: Continue at "Before Replacing a Control Module". Component Tests and General Diagnostics
NO: The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
