Subject: Safety Belt with Lockable Belt Tongue
Application: 1996 900 and 9000 Models
All 1996 models come equipped with lockable belt tongues on all safety belts for use when installing Child safety seats. When installing a child restraint system that is secured by the lap belt portion, fastening is improved by using the lap belt locking feature.
This lockable tongue is designed to restrict belt movement and to secure the restraint in position while the vehicle is in motion. The button for the locking feature is located on the rear side of the latch tongue.
1. Place the child safety seat in the appropriate rear seating position.
2. Move the button the locking tongue to child seat position to activate the locking feature. See Figure 1.
3. Secure the lower part of the child safety seat by means of the safety belt as described in the child seat mounting instructions.
4. Tension the lap belt portion to the child safety seat to remove any slack by pulling upwards at the shoulder portion of the belt.
5. Check that the locking feature has engaged by pulling slightly at the lap belt portion. The belt must not spool out.
