Availability of Extended Length Safety Belts

** For those customers whose body size results in their not being able to buckle the original equipment safety belt and reach the instrument panel controls while in their normal seating position, extended length safety belts are available for an expanded range of vehicles. See detailed information below. **

Note and advise the vehicle owner:
These safety belts should only be fitted when absolutely necessary and re quested for use only by a specific customer. The OE specified belt should be used in all other circumstances in order to provide the best protection for most occupants. Advise the owner to have the OE belt(s) reinstalled prior to selling the car. The owner must sign a special order form. See sample at the end of this bulletin.





The extended length 9000 belts are only available with the pretensioner device. See Figure 1. 1989-91 9000's equipped with driver air bag are not provided with pretensioner circuitry for the left front seat. An extended length belt may be installed in such a vehicle, however, the pretensioner will not be connected and will not activate in a crash. In cases where the OE belt has a pretensioning device, the device in the replacement belt should always be connected to ensure proper function.

Due to the relatively small volume of 900 vehicles produced in 1994 with mechanical pre-tensioners, extended safety belts cannot be fitted to these models and will not be made available. **

Replace original safety belt with extended belt following directions found in Service Manual 8:2 Interior equipment. See illustration for sample owner release/order form.
