Subject: New 900 Test Brake Lights Message

Application: 1996 900 Models





This new feature adds a functional check of the brake light circuit each time the ignition is switched on. The CHECK message, "TEST BRAKE LIGHTS," (see Figure 1) will remain displayed on the Saab Information Display (SID) until the driver depresses the brake pedal for the first time. If the message is not extinguished after the brake pedal is depressed, this indicates brake light failure.

Footnote 1 under the CHECK messages display table on page 20 of the 1996 900 Owner's Manual includes this new information, which reads as follows:

"Cannot be deleted by pressing CLEAR because of safety/legal considerations. Press the brake pedal to test the brake lights."

Cars Affected:

1996 Saab 900 cars.

Action:
Please be sure that your entire service and sales staff is aware of this change. This is particularly important during the Pre-delivery Inspection and the Dedicated Delivery in assuring that the customer does not mistake this SID message for a system malfunction.
