Rear Oil Seal

Fig. 1 Belt Tensioner Loosening:





1. Loosen belt tensioner using ratchet handle extension and 6 mm drill bit, Fig.1. Use care to ensure belt tensioner does not break at its end position.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front righthand wheel and cover.
3. Remove protective plate and install flywheel locking segment tool 83 94 868, or equivalent, on flywheel ring gear.
4. Remove crankshaft pulley, then use screwdriver to break off old seal.
5. Install new seal using assembly tool No. 83 94 876, or equivalent.
6. Install crankshaft pulley. Tighten to specifications.
7. Install drive belt and check position of belt on all pulleys, then install cover.
8. Install wheel, then lower vehicle and tighten wheel nuts to specifications.
9. Loosen belt tensioner as outlined earlier.
10. Run engine at idle speed, then turn off and check if drive belt is correctly positioned.
