Front Oil Seal
1. Remove air cleaner and mass air flow sensor.
2. Slightly loosen pulley bolts, then remove drive belt, tensioner, power steering pump pulley, water pump pulley and cover.
3. Remove front righthand wheel and cover in wheel housing.
4. Remove crankshaft pulley. Loosen six bolts, but do not remove center bolt.
5. Position No. 1 cylinder in compression position. Markings oncamshaft sprockets and timing cover should be in alignment aswellasmarking on crankshaft.Insert suitable locking tools for camshaft sprockets on cylinder heads.
6. Before removing belt, mark direction of rotation at camshaft markings and crankshaft marking.
7. Remove tensioning roller and two adjusting rollers, then the belt.
8. Turn crankshaft back 60° Before Top Dead Center (BTDC).
9. Raise and support vehicle and remove protective plate for flywheel.
10. Install flywheel stop, then remove crankshaft pulley and spacer ring.
11. Pry out seal, using care not to damage crankshaft sealing surface.
12. Install inner part of crankshaft seal assembly tool No. 83 94 942, or equivalent, on crankshaft, then lubricate seal and install onto shaft. Tap seal into place using outer part of tool.
13. Install spacer ring and crankshaft pulley. Tighten crankshaft pulley to specifications.
14. Install cover in wheel housing, then the front righthand wheel. Tighten wheel bolt to specifications.
15. Install cover, water pump pulley, power steering pump pulley, belt tensioner and multigroove drive belt.
16. Install air cleaner and mass air flow sensor.
