Camshaft: Service and Repair

Fig. 2 Flywheel Timing Mark Alignment:

1. Remove breather hose for crankcase ventilation from valve cover.
2. Disconnect vacuum hose and Hall transducer from distributor, then remove distributor cap with ignition wires.
3. Remove spark plug inspection cover and clips for plug wires.
4. Remove valve cover.
5. Rotate engine until (0) mark on flywheel is aligned with pointer, Fig. 2. Ensure camshaft timing marks are also correctly aligned.
6. Remove distributor.
7. Remove camshaft sprockets with chain.
8. Remove oil pipes, then the camshaft bearing caps and camshafts.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
