DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
For diagnosis of the car's electronic systems, a 16-pin data link connector is located under the dashboard adjacent to the steering column.

Current is supplied to the data link connector via fuse 13. The connector has power ground on pin 4 and signal ground on pin 5.

The following systems are connected to the data link connector as indicated:

Pin 1 Main instrument display panel 2(540B)
Audio 2 and 3 (359B, C)
SID units 2 and 3 (541B, C)
Automatic Climate Control (ACC) unit (216)
Pin 4 Power ground
Pin 5 Signal ground
Pin 6 Lamp-flash code (I lead)
Motronic 2.10.3 (505)
Motronic 2.8.1(510)
Pin 7 Transmission Control Module (502)
Motronic 2.10.2 (505)

Pin 16 Power supply (+30 circuit)

FAULT DIAGNOSIS HINTS
1 Check that fuse 13 is intact and supplied with current.
2 Check that communication can be established with other systems connected to the same connector. If negative, check the wiring.
3 Check the wiring, connectors and ground connections.
