DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
Cars for certain markets are equipped with an electrically heated rear seat.
The heating pads are supplied with current via fuse 33 in the dashboard fuse holder.
With the ignition switch in the Drive position and switch 503 pressed, positive current is supplied to the Integrated Central Electronics (ICE) on pin 43. The ICE then grounds relay 511 via pin 13, causing the relay to operate and supply heating pads 512 and 513 with current.
Connection time is controlled. The ICE system grounds the relay for 5 minutes, waits 2.5 minutes and then grounds the relay again for 2.5 minutes. Following this, the switch must be pressed once more to start a new cycle.
During the time that current is supplied to the heating pads, an additional indicator lamp in the switch lights up regardless of the setting of the rheostat.
The heating pads can be activated during the 2.5 minute waiting period. In that case the cycle will be recommenced from the beginning.
When the ignition switch is in the Start position, the heating pads are switched OFF for a maximum of 20 seconds.
FAULT DIAGNOSIS HINTS
The heating pads will be operative when the ignition switch is in the Drive position.
1. Check that fuse 33 is intact and supplied with current.
2. Check the heating pads for continuity.
3. Check the connectors, wiring harness and ground connections.
