Subject:
Correcting Complaint of Water
Leakage at Door Mirror
Application:
1995 900 Convertibles
It is possible for poorly aligned seals at the door mirror base to cause a customer complaint of a water leak into their vehicle. By pulling the seal downward and then securing it in that position, you can eliminate the risk of water leakage. Follow the directions below to rectify this situation.
Cars Affected:
1995 900 Convertibles
Parts:
Tape (card of 10 pieces) 74 97 357*
Headlamp washer hose 85 48 273
Loctite 496 adhesive (or equivalent) 30 07 226
*This is enough to do 10 cars: one piece, cut in half, is enough to do both sides.
Action:
1. Lower the door window completely.
2. Using a pair of pliers, loosen both sides of the weatherseal and pull it back.
3. Using a ruler or straight edge as a guide pull the vertical end of the weatherseal down until the tip is 34 mm lower than its previous position. See Figure 1.
4. Remove a piece of tape from the card, P/N 74 97 357, and cut it in the middle. Use it to secure the weatherseal to the inside of the guide channel.
5. To increase the pressure on the inside of the glass, fit a length of headlamp washer hose, P/N 85 48 273, on the inside of the guide channel.
^ Cut the hose to the same length (about 15 cm) as the vertical part of the weatherseal. See Figure 2.A.
^ Apply Loctite 496 adhesive (or equivalent) to the upper end of the hose. See Figure 2.B.
^ Bend out the sealing lip on the inside of the guide channel. Stick the adhesive end of the hose inside the weatherseal at the upper end and insert the hose in the weatherseal, working down.
^ Press the sealing lip back in place.
