Subject:
Correcting Customer Complaint that Headliner at First Bow Is Loose or Hanging Down
Application:
All 1995 900 Convertible
Supersedes PSI 06/96-0690
On a small number of 1995 900 Convertibles it is possible that the adhesive securing the Velcro fastener to the first bow may lose its adhesive properties and cause the leading edge of the headliner to come loose and hang down. Should a customer complain of this, follow the steps below.
Cars Affected:
All 1995 900 Convertible
Parts:
Pop rivet (12) 47 67 422
Tape 46 95 870
Action:
1. Operate the top until it is fully lowered and the Tonneau cover is in an upright position.
2. Pull the headliner away from the Velcro fastener. Check for adequate adhesion by pulling carefully on each of the four (4) Velcro fasteners. See Figure 1.
3. If the fasteners stay in place, refit the headliner Start at the outer edges and tap the Velcro fasteners into each other using a plastic mallet.
If the fasteners come away at any point, continue as described below.
Important
Use a block of wood (see A in Figure on the next page) between the first bow and the top cover to avoid dam aging the top cover.
Be sure to remove all drilling residue on both sides of the hole in the first bow as they could otherwise damage the top cover.
4. Position a block of wood: see point A in Figure 1.
Using a 3.5 mm drill bit with a length of vacuum hose on it, drill three holes in each Velcro fastener. (The vacuum hose will prevent you from drilling too far.) Use a vacuum cleaner to remove any residue when you are doing this.
Feel carefully with your hand to make sure that no residue is left in the tape or headliner fabric after drilling.
5. Rivet the four Velcro fasteners in place using the 12 pop rivets, P/N 47 67 422. Press down hard when riveting. See Figure 1.
NOTE:
If you do not use rivet, P/N 47 67 422, the compressed end of the rivet will be visible on the top.
6. If the tape is undamaged and satisfactorily conceals the rivet heads, the tape does not need to be changed.
However, if the tape is damaged and the rivet heads are visible, the tape should be changed. Use tape, P/N 46 95 870. If the tape should be missing, fit this same part number.
7. Refit the headliner. Start at the outer edges and tap the Velcro fasteners into each other using a plastic mallet.
