DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
Cars for certain markets are equipped with a factory-fitted anti-theft alarm. The alarm is controlled by a remote control unit (not Cabriolet models having chassis number S7009999 and earlier) and can be programmed to meet the requirements and official regulations of different countries.

Blocking of the engine starting function, fuel supply and steering system takes place, in addition to visual/acoustic signalling, when the alarm is set off.

Arming of the alarm is performed by pressing the remote control unit's left-hand button once. This also locks the central locking system. The alarm cannot be armed by means of the key.

Disarming is performed by pressing the button once again, when the doors will also be unlocked. When the alarm is armed, the boot lid alone can be opened. This is accomplished by pressing the remote control unit's right-hand button.

When the alarm is armed, activation of the anti-theft alarm is delayed for 10 seconds. Within this delay period the passenger door (not the driver's door), bonnet and boot lid can be opened without setting off the alarm.

During the delay period, the LED remains ON continuously and then starts flashing at the rate of 1 flash every 2 seconds when the alarm is activated.

The system incorporates the following main components:
^ Control module 289
^ Glass breakage sensor 451 (integrated with the interior lighting)
^ LED 305
^ Horn 275
^ Luggage compartment switch 56
^ Door switches 54
^ Aerial for remote control unit 582
^ Bonnet switch 276

Doors
If the driver's door is open or the ignition switched ON, the doors cannot be locked or unlocked and the alarm cannot be armed or disarmed by means of the remote control unit.

If a passenger door, bonnet or boot lid is open or opened during the delay period and remains open for more than 10 seconds, the door, bonnet or boot lid will not be covered by the alarm system.

When the door, bonnet or boot lid is closed, a new delay period begins but only for the door, bonnet or boot lid that was open. The LED shines with a steady light.

The alarm is still armed in regard to other doors, the bonnet or boot lid.

If the driver's door is opened during the delay period, the alarm will be automatically disarmed.

Boot Lid
The boot lid can be opened without setting off the alarm when the alarm is activated by pressing the remote control unit's right-hand button. The boot lid will then not be covered by the alarm system.

If the boot lid is opened with the key when the alarm is armed, the alarm will be triggered.

When the boot lid is later closed, a new delay period will start for the boot lid only.

The alarm still remains armed for other doors or the bonnet.

Ignition Switch
It is not possible to arm the alarm when the ignition switch is in the Drive position.

If the ignition switch is turned to the Drive position during the delay period, the alarm will be disarmed.

When the alarm is armed it will be set OFF if the ignition switch is turned to the Drive or Start position.

Power Supply And Grounding
The anti-theft alarm's control module is supplied with power straight from the +30 circuit without any intervening fuse. On cars for the US/CA market, the control module is supplied with power (+30 circuit) via fuse 23.

The main ground is pin 13 of the control module.

The control module is supplied with +50 circuit current via fuse 36 and with +15 circuit current via fuse 17.

Cabriolet
When the hood is down, the glass breakage sensor should be disconnected manually with the disconnection button to prevent false alarms.

FAULT DIAGNOSIS HINTS
An Intelligent Saab Tester scan tool is to be used for carrying out fault diagnosis.
