Improving Operation of 2nd Bow

Improving the operation of 2nd Bow.

Parts:

Gleitmo 525 (or equivalent) 74 97 332
Rubber plug (2) 46 96 175

Loctite Thread Locking Adhesive
Primer
Black finishing paint (i.e. touch-up paint)

1. Operate the top using the "ROOF" switch until it is halfway raised and the Tonneau cover is fully upright. All windows should be lowered.

2. Cut off the protruding threaded part of the flipper rod on both sides of car flush with 2nd bow. Get an assistant to vacuum the area at the same time to remove the metal filings. See Figure 5.B.

CAUTION:
Protect rear upholstery from hot metal shavings.

3. Bevel the ends (cut them diagonally) of the second bow as shown in Figure 5.B above. Get an assistant to vacuum the area at the same time to remove the metal filings.

4. Deburr the cut surfaces. Apply primer.

5. Apply black finishing paint.

6. Check the bolt securing the flipper rod. If it is tight and loctited, just lubricate the pivot point with Gleitmo 525 or equivalent product. If it is loose. remove screw and lubricate the bushing. Apply Loctite 242 (blue) on the threads of screw and reinstall.

7. Tighten the bolt.

8. Grasp the second bow and move it back and forth by hand. Check that it displays no tendency to bind or seize.

9. Glue the rubber plug, P/N 46 96 175, to the head of the pop rivet securing the second bow's stop. See Figure 5.C.
