P0341

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P0341
Camshaft position sensor, input to control module faulty.

Fault Symptom.
CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) on, fast idle.

Condition
Wrong number of signals from the position sensor counted during five engine revolutions at speeds above 1520 rpm and with the crankshaft position sensor in working order.

Diagnostic Procedure.
1. With the ignition switch in the DRIVE position, check that 5 V is present on pin 1 of the sensor connector.
Also check that pin 3 is properly grounded.

If not, check the lead between pin 1 of the connector and pin 12 of the control module for continuity/shorting. Also check the lead between pin 3 of the connector and grounding step G7S for continuity/shorting to batt+.

If the voltage and ground are OK in the connector, proceed to step 2.
If there is no voltage and the wiring is OK, proceed to step 4.

2. With the ignition switched OFF, connect a BOB between the control module and its wiring.

WARNING: When carrying out tests involving rotation of the engine, the HT cable between the ignition coil and the distributor should be disconnected from the distributor and connected to ground so that the engine will not start.

Turn the ignition switch to the DRIVE position, turn the engine over and take a measurement across pins 8 and 14 to check that the voltage varies between 0 V and 5 V.

Connect the HT cable to the distributor, start the engine and run it at idling speed. Repeat the above measurement. A reading of about 4.3 V should now be obtained across pins 8 and 14.

If incorrect readings are obtained in the above measurements, check the wiring for continuity/shorting by measuring across pin 8 on the BOB and pin 2 of the connector. Also check that the slotted rotor rotates with the engine.

3. If a voltage is present on pin 1 of the sensor's connector and pin 3 is properly grounded, but no voltage according to the measurements in step 2, change the camshaft position sensor.

4. If no current is present on pin 1 of the connector, continue at "Before Control Module Replacement" for further diagnostic instructions. Before Replacing A Control Module
