Wind Screen Wiper and Washer
The car's windshield wipers can run at two speeds and intermittently. The system also includes windshield washers. When the ignition switch is in the Drive position, current is supplied via fuse 31 to:
^ windshield wiper stalk switch 61
^ relay 83 for intermittent operation
^ windshield wiper motor 62
With the stalk switch in position I, "low speed", current is supplied to pin 3 of the wiper motor from pin 8 of the stalk switch. The motor runs at low speed.
With the stalk switch in position II, current is supplied instead from pin 7 of the stalk switch to pin 4 of the wiper motor. The motor now runs at maximum speed.
With the stalk switch in position J, "intermittent operation", current is supplied from pin 10 of the stalk switch to pin 39 of the ICE control module.
Pin 59 of the ICE control module grounds intermittent operation relay 83 for 0.5 seconds every 8th second.
The wiper motor incorporates a mechanically actuated switch which is supplied with current regardless of the position of the stalk switch.
This switch controls the flow of current in such a way that the wiper motor always returns to the parked position when the current is turned off by the stalk switch.
When the wiper motor reaches the parked position, the mechanically actuated switch cuts off the current and the motor stops.
Washing starts when the spring-loaded stalk is moved towards the steering wheel.
The washer motor and ICE control module are supplied with current from pin 5 of the stalk switch.
The ICE grounds the intermittent operation relay and the wipers sweep the windshield 4 times.
After 8 seconds the ICE grounds the relay again for 0.5 seconds.
