Subject:
Correcting Complaint of Windshield Fogging

Application:
1994- 900 up to VIN Serial No. S2023910 and 1995- 900 Convertibles up to VIN Serial No. S7017142

Several measures have been developed which, when performed together, greatly reduce the amount of fogging and improve the defogging process in certain conditions. Should you have a customer complaint about this occurring, please follow the procedures outlined.





First, verify that the checks and/or repairs described in Subjects # 2 and # 7 of PSI 01/94-0424 Special PDI/Post-PDI Action have been performed.

^ Subject # 2: Water Leaks at Bulkhead Up to VIN Serial No. R2007500 inclusive
^ Subject # 7: Defogging/Air Outlet Blockage Up to VIN Serial No. F32012900 inclusive. If the above two steps have already been performed, follow the directions shown.

Action:
Fitting drainage tray. (This modification was introduced in production as of VIN Serial Nos. S2023910 and S7017142.)

1. Remove the windshield wipers.





2. Remove the cover over the inner bulkhead space. See Figure 2, item 2.
3. Fit the water drainage tray in position. See Figure 2, item 3. Insert the right-hand end into the drain hole as shown in Figure 2, item A.
4. Fit the cover over the inner bulkhead space back into place.
5. Refit the windshield wipers.

Warranty Information:

Based on a customer complaint, a warranty claim may be submitted using the following information:

Failure code: 82065-56-9-01-01.
Labor operation: 82065 for 0.2 hr.

Straight time for 0.2 hr.

Action:
Inspection of soundproofing pads adjacent to the air evacuation grille. (This modification was introduced in production as of VIN Serial No. R2012901.)

1. Remove the two clips securing the luggage compartment trim on the right-hand side.
2. Remove the screws and clips securing the luggage compartment scuff plate and lift it off.





3. Bend down luggage compartment trim and tape the soundproofing pads in place as shown. Note that the lower of the two pads should be folded once before it is introduced behind the sheet metal. See Figure 3, item A. Tape length should be about 20 cm.
4. Refit the luggage compartment trim and scuff plate. The trim should be fitted under the tailgate weather-seal.

Failure code: 85835-71-2-01-05.
Labor operation: 85835 for 0.3 hr.

Action:
Improvement of Defogging Performance. (Modified defroster cover was introduced in production as of VIN Serial Nos. R2043195 and S7002138.) (Modified speaker grille was introduced in production as of VIN Serial Nos. S2004995 and S7011987.)

1. Remove the speaker grilles.
2. Remove the defroster cover.
3. Lift out the LH and RH soundproofing.
4. Transfer the VIN plate to the new defroster cover.





5. Cut away material along the leading edge as indicated in Figure 4, item A of the defroster outlet on the dashboard. Cut away foil and foam down to the dashboard's plastic framework.
6. Fit the new soundproofing material in place on both side.
7. On some cars the mounting holes in the new defroster cover will not coincide with the holes in the dashboard. Take measurements and drill new holes which coincide with the old defroster cover's holes.
8. Fit the new defroster cover in place.
9. Fit the new speaker grilles, P/N 46 41 171 (LH) and P/N 46 41 189 (RH).
