Action 1

1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Service Manual 4:1, "Manual gearbox."

2. Remove the end cover and main case as described in Service Manual 4:1.





3. Remove the reverse gear lever (see item 1, Figure 2).





4. Measure the reverse gear lever (Figure 3). If the dimensions are not as indicated, install a new lever, P/N 87 35 102.





CAUTION
Molybdenum particles can damage the gearbox. Check to see if molybdenum flakes from the synchromesh baulk ring have fastened on the synchromesh cone or if molybdenum particles have flaked off the synchromesh baulk ring (see item 1, Figure 4).

5. Check for molybdenum flakes.

No molybdenum attached to the cone or flaked off the baulk ring: continue with step 6.

Molybdenum attached to the cone or flaked off the baulk ring: go to Action 2.

6. Install the new reverse gear assembly, P/N 87 43 460.

7. Check that reverse gear engages properly before fitting the gear case.

8. Reassemble the gearbox. Refer to Service Manual 4:1, "Manual gearbox," and fit it in the car.

Tightening torque reverseing shaft support, 28 Nm (20.7 ft. lbs.).

9. Saab 900: Adjust the position of the gear lever as detailed in Recall 296.
