Carrier Pinion Gears: Service and Repair

NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.





Disassembly
1. Remove the final gear wheel.




2. Tap out the locking pin which locks the differential shaft.
3. Press out the differential shaft with drivers tools Nos. 87 91 220 and 78 41 067, or equivalent.




4. Pick out the differential gear wheels and the plastic disc (wear disc) in the order shown on the illustration.
5. Check the condition of all parts as regards wear.
- Replace worn or defective parts.





Assembly
1. Replace the plastic disc and the differential gear wheels in the order shown on the illustration.




2. Install the differential shaft.
3. Tap in the locking pin in the differential shaft.




4. Install the final gear wheel with new screws.
- Tighten alternately to 60-70 Nm (47-55 ft. lbs.)
