Clutch Pedal Assembly: Service and Repair
NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.Removal
1. Disconnect the clutch cable from the gearbox clutch lever by pulling the wire and hooking it out of the wire stop.
2. Remove the following:
- The data link connector
- Bottom part of the instrument panel
- Floor air duct
- Knee shield
- Fuse board
- Integrated Central Electronics (ICE) control unit
- Air duct to air dispenser on instrument panel
3. Move the pedal's return spring to one side and lift off the cable's plastic eye.
4. Remove locking spring, washer and nut on the screw which holds the pedal.
- Remove the pedal.
Installation
1. Install pedal and return spring with screw, nut and washer.
- Tighten the nut to 18 Nm (13.5 ft lbs) and fit the locking spring.
NOTE:
- The setting screw on the-clutch pedal's console determines the pedal's neutral position.
- he screw is set at the factory and may not be altered as that will affect the self-adjustment.
2. Hook the plastic eye of the wire on to the pedal and fit the pedal's return spring.
- Check that nothing prevents the pedal from returning to its neutral position.
3. Pull the wire out a little and fit the wire stop in the clutch lever.
4. Check the functioning by moving the clutch lever forward in the car's direction of travel.
- The balancing spring should then be compressed and the length of the cable's cover be reduced.
- When the clutch lever is released, the cover should regain its original length.
- Repeat three to four times.
- Grip hold of the balancing spring and give it a small jerk to remove any play.
5. Install the following:
- The air duct to the air dispenser on the instrument panel.
- The ICE control unit
- The fuse board
- The knee shield
- The floor air duct
- The bottom part of the instrument panel
- The data link connector
