Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid: Description and Operation
The torque converter clutch solenoid (SL) is located in the shift solenoid assembly which is fitted to the transmission. This solenoid controls the torque converter's lock-up function.
The solenoid is automatically grounded in the transmission during assembly and operates when it is activated via battery voltage. The solenoid is powered via pin 19 on the TCM.
The power supply (ON/OFF) is controlled by the TCM, which gives a signal for shifting gears up or down, depending on speed, throttle position and the pre-selected driving program.
The winding resistance in the solenoid is nominally 13 ohms.
