Handling of Control Modules

HANDLING OF TCMs
All Transmission Control Modules (TCM) are sensitive to static electricity to some degree and if they are not handled in the correct way, they could be seriously damaged in such a way that their functioning is jeopardized. It is therefore important that the rules below are followed at all times when for any reason the TCM has to be removed or replaced.

- Do not disconnect or remove the TCM unless it is absolutely necessary.

- Never touch the pins and never place the TCM so that the pins come into contact with foreign objects.

- Before a new TCM is unpacked, ground the packaging to the car's chassis. Open the packaging as close in time as possible to the fitting.

- Avoid working in clothes made of synthetic materials.

- When you work with an TCM it is important that you regularly connect yourself to ground. This is particularly important when you have sat down in the car, when you have changed position or moved around the car and is especially important when you work in a climate where the air is very dry (for example during the winter in cold countries).

- Always deal in the same way with TCMs which are suspected of being faulty. This considerably increases your chances of finding the reason for the fault.
